I have recently accepted an administrator position at Whitworth University as the Program Director of their Marriage and Family Therapy program. Because the program needs focused leadership and attention after a period of transition, I have made the difficult decision to close my therapy practice after 13 years. While I hope to return to clinical work in the future, this felt like the right time to invest fully in this new role.

Supervision & Consultation

Training & Experience

Dr. Rudd has 20 years of clinical experience working in a wide array of service delivery models and understands the unique needs that therapists face based on where they provide services and for whom they provide services to. She has an abundance of supervision and consultation experience with therapists at all levels of their professional development from graduate students to seasoned professionals. As a professor she served as a Practicum and Internship supervisor, she has also provided agency clinical supervision to staff and served as clinical director with additional training and experience with advanced issues and concerns.

Supervision and Consultation Style

Using a Systemic Cognitive-Developmental model, Dr. Rudd approaches supervision and consultation in the context of a consultees professional development, fostering sound clinical and conceptual skills, confidence and reliance on a guiding theoretical model to support a full episode of client care along with considerations for the person-of-therapist.

Supervision

Who receives Supervision? Supervision is necessary when gaining hours towards licensure or learning a new modality while gaining experience.
What is it: Supervision, or supervised experience, is an ethically responsible practice of working under the supervision of a provider who has gained advanced education and experience along with earning designation as a supervisor in a particular modality.
Frequency of Meetings: Licensure supervision: 1 hour per week during the course of licensure. Play Therapy Supervision – at least 1 hour per month. Supervisee must have licensed on-site supervisor who can oversee day-to-day clinical care and responsibility of client.
Cost: $150 per 55 minute session
What does it include: Introductory virtual meeting to determine the scope of the supervisee’s needs, on-site support and general fit between supervisee-supervisor. The initial meeting includes review of the supervision agreement, identification of supervisees education and experience, current strengths and areas of growth, case consultation layout and goals for upcoming quarter. Subsequent sessions will include a blend of skill or knowledge development, administrative or logistical question and answers, exploration of person-of-therapist, mentorship and coaching.

Consultation

Who receives consultation? Consultation is for independently licensed individuals who are seeking deeper awareness, confidence, growth and professional stamina.
What is it: Consultation, like supervision, is not therapy but offers an exploratory and growth-oriented approach to developing one’s professional self. From clinical skills and case conceptualization to growing confidence and stamina as a therapist or identifying and reducing professional burnout. Consultation is an essential part of effective clinical care.
Frequency of Meetings: 1 time per month is typical, but more or less depending on individual needs
Cost: $135 per 55 minute session
What does it include: An initial encounter to discuss the needs of the consultee, explore therapist educational and experience background, general review of prior consultation or supervision experiences, exploration of suspected or known periods of burnout or struggle and mutually determine the consultee’s hopes for ongoing consultation.

As-Needed Consultation

Who receives as needed consultation? There may be times when a therapist needs to consult on a specific case that poses unique challenges, but ongoing and regular consultation meetings are not necessary.
What is it: Consultation meeting specific to a particular case, ethical dilemma or help navigating a complex situation that does not require ongoing meetings.
Frequency of Meetings: Scheduled when desired.
Cost: $200 per 55 minute session
What does it include: Prior to the as-needed consultation session the consultee will provide a brief review of the case or situation and what they hope to achieve from the as-needed consultation session. The session will include a thorough review of the presenting issue, previous efforts and consequence. Consultation will be collaborative with the use of ethical decision making models, application of relevant legal considerations, contextual factors related to best practices and standard of care, recommendations for any additional resources. A summary of the meeting will be provided for the consultee’s records.
